When we came upon this lovely female Merganser we thought it was stuck in some ice close to shore. I noticed it has a damaged right foot. I moved around to see if there was a way I could get to it and free it from the ice, but as I got close either it wasn’t trapped or it freed itself and swam into the small ice free area. I have some shots that show the damage to the foot. I think it will heal and survive if there is enough food in the ice free zone. It’s wings seem okay so it should be able to fly if it has too. Let’s hope for the best.
