Artist's Description

This is one of the photographs that sadly fails to tell the story of what the photographer had to endure to capture it… luckily I am able to enter some free-form text in this ‘Description’ box :)

Dad and I set out from the Neds Gully car park in Victoria’s Cathedral Range State Park late yesterday morning. It took us nearly an hour to walk 2.2km (1.4mi) to this spot, where the Cathedral Peak Track meets up with the Ridge Track. Admittedly, we climbed some 620m (2,034ft) as we hiked that distance. Dad calls this ‘mountain goating’.

This was the first spot that permitted us an awe-inspiring view of the surrounding landscape. I felt the leafless tree in the foreground provided a subtle reminder of the bushfires that devastated this area in 2009, while the green leaves of the tree in the top-right corner symbolised regrowth.
