When they ask

People come around judging us,
not knowing what to think.
Thinking, she does what she wants
and he’s too scared to say something.
But it’s not like that.
Just because we aren’t miserable
and conventional, people
think they have the right to judge.
When I told you their hateful words,
you said “they’re just jelly.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.

We’re always the first to get home
and the last to leave…
We stay until it’s quiet, lonely,
and creepy. But at least we have our solitude.
You were the first person I told.
You’re the only person I’m going to miss.
I cried a lot last week.
And every time you looked at me
with puppy eyes and wiped my tears.

One day we’re going to live comfortably
in a less expensive place,
maybe raise some kid… goats.
Or just some kids.
We’re going to travel
and try to stay happy
for as long as we can.

Everyone seems real concerned.
With good reason. Really, it’s been years.
But no body could take his place.
I didn’t know how broken I was before
he came along and started to heal me.
No one will ever know
all the beauty of the untold.
