Video Art Screening

This form of media,
being directly injected into my bloodstream;
unfiltered and raw.
A production streaming into my mind;
another persons perception flowing into mine.
I can’t comprehend with so little time to digest.

They were mostly about similar concepts.
Shots of their morning routine, checking
their smartphones and critiquing corporations.
“Damn hipster college.” I didn’t even know what
that word meant until I came here.
Surreal in one way or another,
they explored ideas of dreaming and drugs.
No clear cut line between reality and the imaginary.

Some were violent.
Mine being one of them.
I would like to think I produced something different.
My video stood out and at first I didn’t know if I liked this.
Self conscious, until I realized I was aiming for different.
Aren’t we always?

The most prominent theme of all was loneliness.
They started and finished with one persons point of view.
With a build of that just drops off leading me to believe
that at the end of the day, no matter the sequence of events,
it’s just another day.

Beginnings are misleading.
They are edited to perfection
allowing my mind to wonder
and fantasize about what this could be.
But, they’re always the same.
Which leads to boredom.
And I feel empty.

It’s nice to know that my mind is
not exactly synced up to the 40
other students who use this form
of medium, but on the same wave length.

We’re not that different.
The outcome is never the same.
It’s good to know I’m not the only one.
