Artist's Description

Posting this out of interest.

Learned a trick off a friend of mine, did some tests and thought I’d share with you all.

This shot is taken with my Canon 40D on a tripod with no lens attached…
Using the kit lens back to front (i.e. not mounted just held in front of the mount) zoomed at about 50mm focal length, I moved the subject (another Canon lens) until it was focused where i wanted it, on the ‘O’ of the CANON print.
It can be done with reversing rings as well, which are pretty cheap (they allow you to mount your lens on backwards), but if you don’t have any, you can just hold your lens (with a steady hand) in good light.

I found this technique gives some really interesting depth of focus and almost macro like photos.

Canon 40D w/ a 18-55mm (not mounted and reversed)
tripod
ISO: 400
shutter: 1/00
