Artist's Description

This brave, cheeky bird is known by a number of other common names, such as soldier bird, and pimp. It generally finds acceptance in a community of birds because it is always on the lookout for danger. At the first sign of danger, it alarm calls – very loudly! All other birds take notice of this, and take shelter. Of course, being a very intelligent bird, it makes good use of this. When there is good food on offer, these little birds will alarm call, wait for the crowd to disappear, then get stuck into the food themselves!

Whenever the bird community is threatened by a predator, feathered or furred, these little guys can be counted on to join in (or parhaps lead) the attack, driving away the intruder with boldness, noise and force of numbers!

This was taken in January 2009 at Grenfell NSW with my Olympus SP-565UZ on Automatic setting and is not enhanced in any way.
