A different door

I don’t believe that this is it
I know I’ve lived before
Images that just won’t quit
Lead me through another door

The sands of Inca scatter
whisking memories through my mind
No longer does it matter
As I’ve left it all behind

Marble pillars in Roman past
I still sense this ancient haunt
In an instant the scene is cast
why must this vision taunt?

Flashes of a special lover
In sephia tones of old
All my memory can recover
but details won’t unfold

I life of bitter poverty
Then thrust into riches so grand
Did I wonder then….what would be,
as I walked in the Inca’s sand?

And you,….you were there back then
I know that I’ve known you before.
there are many places we’ve already been,
when we walked through a different door.

I don’t believe in happenstance
Your soul it soothes me so
Have we been given one more chance,
to embrace the love of long ago?

when our lives are over and done
may our weary souls reunite
and after we shared the last setting sun
together we’ll return to the light.
