WAITING

She had been waiting for a long time now. She knew it
was longer than normal, and she sensed something was
wrong. She paced back and forth worriedly feeling a little cry inside of herself. Where was he? Then the sirens came, and the men with a stretcher pushed past her. In a little while they brought him out, even though he was covered she knew it was him. She cried inside and out. She tried to reach him, but she was restrained. They took him, and they left. He had been her life long companion and she was his only companion. She stayed all day at the entrance to the store, but finally around closing time a nice man who was a checker noticed her. Hi girl he said, he could see she was stressed. Coming closer he checked her tag and he realized that she had belonged to the elderly man who had had a heart attack in the store earlier and died. Her name was Destiny, such a beautiful dog, she was a black Labrador Retriever. It was too late to call the humane society so he took her home with him. He fell in with love with her immediately, and the next day when he called them, he asked them if he could keep her. They said they would check with the family of the deceased man to see if this was alright, and later that day they called back to say that the family was glad that she had found a home. An unfortunate incident had brought them together, but now they both had a chance at a new life together.
