I LOVE EDITH PIAF AND HER GREAT SONGS!

Dans ma petite vie, ‘y a deux garcons-in my little life there are two men
‘Y en a un brun et puis un blond-there is a brunette and a blonde
Qui m’aiment tous deux á leur maniére-who both like me in their manner
Le brun a l’air triste et sérieux-the brunette is very sad and serious
Et le blond rit de tous ses yeux-and the blonde laughs with his eyes
J’crois bien que c’est le brun que je preférè-I believe it is the brunette that I prefer
Il est plus jeune, Il est plus beau-he is more young, he is more handsome
Il a une belle couleur de peau-he has a beautiful color of skin
Un coeur tout pur, plein de choses toutes belles…-a pure heart, full of beautiful things

Oui, mais le blond n’a qu’a s’amener-yes, but the blonde has only to bring himself
Avec son air de rigoler-with his air of laughter
C’est pour lui que j’ai envie d’être belle…-it is for him that I wish to be beautiful

Le brun me parle très gravement-the brunette speaks to me very seriously
De son amour, de ses tourments-of his love, of his torments
Avec une belle voix qui chante-with a beautiful voice which sings
Il dit qu’il se tuerait sûrement-he says that he will surely die
Si je ne l’aimais pas tout le temps-if I do not love him all the time
Ou si un jour j’étais mechante-or if one day I was mean
Ca m’impressionne, ca me fait tout drôle-it makes an impression on me, it makes me laugh at it all
C’est vraiment lui qui a le beau rôle-it is really him who has the better role
‘Y a pas à dire, c’est lui qui m’aime-it is not to say, (there is no doubt), it is him who likes me

Quand je parle au blond de se suicider-when I speak to the blonde of suicide
Il dit: “Non! Tu veux rigoler!”-he says, no! you want to laugh!
Mais j’aime bien l’embrasser quand même…-but I like to embrace it nevertheless

Ca s’est passé en plein mois d’août-the full month of august has passed
On n’y a rien compris du tout-there was nothing to understand at all
Il était venu boire de la bière-he had come to drink beer
Quand il a eu vidé son bock-when he emptied his beerglass
On a entendu un petit ‘toc’-we heard a little (junk?)
Ah! La pratronne n’était pas fière!-the female owner was not proud
Il était là, tranquille comme tout-he was there, calm as all
Avec au front, au petit trou…-with the face, a litte hole?
Mon Dieu! Que cette histoire est bête-my God, this story is stupid

C’était mon blond qu’était parti-it was my blonde who left
En me laissant un petit mot écrit:-he left me a little note
“J’ai assez ri! Salut, p’tite tête!”-I have laughed enough, goodbye little one/head?

I have attempted to translate this song, although I am not sure of my translation. I have done my best with the little french that I know, if you know the meaning better please correct me. There were some things that I did not understand. I study songs in french because they help me to try to learn the language. I love Edith Piaf songs. She is still famous decades later. In France her grave is always covered with fresh flowers.
