Artist's Description

The cathedral Saint Etienne, of Metz, in northeastern France, is at 41.41 meters the third highest in France, after only Beauvais and Amiens Cathedrals. The 14th century stained glass windows are largest expanse of stained glass in the world. Other sections of stained glass were created by Marc Chagall in the 20th century. The site of the cathedral dates back to the fifth century. A Romanesque structure occupied the site from 1040, and the current gothic structure was begun in 1220, and consecrated in 1552. This is one of the most impressive cathedrals I’ve had the pleasure of visiting, and I was lucky enough to live in Metz for one year.
