I am a self-taught artist on death row at San Quentin Prison. I was wrongly accused of a crime I did not commit.

James R. Scott

James Scott is an artist living on death row at San Quentin Prison in California. Here are descriptions for some of his paintings:
Magic Moon
“A being drawn to the center and safety of a meadow, passing the sacred arches, passing through love into freedom. That only someone deprived of freedom comes to envision. It becomes the mind’s eye.”

Someplace…better than no place
“This is how I see an old fort, guarding the sea and part of the land, a place of refuge for the lost.”

Ancient Love: Yin/Yang
“This piece is reversible. You can put either side on top. The Greatest Lovers of all times, constantly trying to merge with one another, only to have a glimpse of each other. When the two merge (which is the middle of the eye), they see through solid matter, brick, passing through the middle of an explosion of solar and moon light (eclipse) into temporal bliss, only to be separated again.”
