Artist's Description

The Carolina Dog is one of the oldest breeds in the United States and is relatively untouched by human meddling. As a result it’s also one of the rarest breeds. Also known as the American Dingo, the Dixie Dingo, or simply the Yellow Dog, they were companions of the Native Americans in the Southeast American territories and are essentially still the wild dogs that their ancestors were. It is generally believed they are the descendants ancient Asian dogs that followed nomads to North America as long ago as Pleistocene times. The breed was officially named in the 1970s by Dr. I Lehr Brisbin Jr of the Univeristy of Georgia after he discovered and documented a wild pack living in the wilds of the Carolinas. They were inducted into the UKC in 1996 and are categorized as working dogs. The Carolina Dog is naturally shy but very loyal and an excellent family pet. They are intelligent and active. If you feel like owning an authentic piece of America’s heritage, check out the Carolina Dog!
