Artist's Description

The northern shrike is a predatory songbird who’s diet includes small birds, rodents and insects. This youngster was shadowing a group of small birds in a wooded area near Ottawa. Shrikes regularly fan thier tails, perhaps to distract potential prey and cause them to make a wrong move.
