Artist's Description

The Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona is very rich in plant and cactus diversity. Indigenous people living in this climate for millennium means many strategies were evolved for comfort and survival. Shade, and all the ways to create it, has always been essential.
This is a pen and ink sketch of plants and a Papago Indian style shade structure from life. Drawn in my Canson sketch book.
