Artist's Description

Ever wondered how nettles sting? This 100x magnification of a nettle leaf reveals a hidden wonder of nature, a myriad of tiny barbs that the plant grows to protect itself. These tiny spines are made of silica, the same stuff of sand and windows, but here loaded with formic acid.

This photograph is untouched, and is left “as is”.
