Moon Moth

Legs shaking
Crawling forward
Inch by inch
Calling out for help
Knowing
That help wasn’t coming

How can a creature
So small
And unnoticed
Scream for attention
So clear, so loud
It left my ears ringing

I stooped down
And held out my palm
Fingers splayed
So he could flutter, creeping
Into my hand
Thankful that his cries weren’t in vain

I held him
Letting his moss green wings quiver
Calming him
Gently, I held out my hand
To a nearby tree
And there he sits

Resting now
No longer struggling
In the heavy raindrops
Waiting for the moon to rise
He bides his time
To take flight once again
