Guilt, shame and pain, are emotions that can doom our ability to learn, love and evolve. They can lead to needless suffering, stunting our emotional growth. It is crucial to our well being, to learn how to process these feelings in a productive and transforming way. We can not bury our feelings alive, we can not hide.
THE WHY BEHIND THE WHAT:
The mannequin hand represents the way we often, “present” the somewhat false version of ourselves we want the world to believe us to be. The masks that are hanging beneath me, represent those aspects of ourselves we bury in the subconscious and unconscious… that darkened corridor of things the ego wants us to repress from ourselves and everyone else.
MORE ABOUT THIS IMAGE:
This image was inspired by three masks and some mannequin hands, i received from a creative soul, that thought i might be able to put them to good use in my photography. So… that’s what i did! And this was the end result.
I photographed everything against a muslin background and did the digital post-production work in Adobe Photoshop CS. Which included blending images of my eyes and eyelids into the three masks to give them a more human and emotive visual context.
Bringing this concept into the photographic realm was an extreme challenge. I struggled to make this work and am so happy i didn’t give up on it. I had to start over several times before finding my creative groove. Perseverance pays off!
