Artist's Description

Tunnel entrance to main courtyard at Castillo San Cristobal in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was built by Spain to protect against land based attacks on the city of San Juan. It is part of San Juan National Historic Site. Started in 1765 and completed in 1783 the fort covered 27 acres! Underground tunnel complexes like this one allowed the rapid deployment of men and material to other parts of the fort.
Nikon D40 Nikkor DX 18-55mm — at Castillo de San Cristóbal.
