Artist's Description

“The supreme happiness of life is the conviction of being loved for yourself, or more correctly, being loved in spite of yourself.” Victor Hugo

Painted in late 2008.

Acrylic on canvas

I thought this would make a nifty postcard or even a giant image.

I so enjoy DeathCabFor Cutie and their I will Possess your Heart tune.
This painting was a response to the event of my husband’s move to a new job location. We had little equity in our house, and our children were still in high school. Our decision that the children and I stay in Tennessee was the choice we made.

As my husband was packing for a long work assignment in another timezone, I was remembering when we were not yet lovers. The Early Days I call them. We spent time together on walks in the rain, time together waiting for the bus. The hours of chatting over music and poetry became days of intense discussions over the relationships and loyalty. Although sometimes we would switch roles, Tony was the cynic, and I was the hopeful optimist.

We used to slip through the woods to get to his warm room and we slowly yet comfortably became friends and lovers.

During this time, a time of extreme separation anxiety, I decided to work on this project.
