Artist's Description

This is one of the rare photos of a captured “terrorist” (shown to the mob by an Army or National Guard – not sure which one! – member, who’s pulling him by the neck hair from an armored car) I took during the 6-7 days of civil war in Sibiu, Transylvania, between 21 and 26-27 of December 1989. The photographer in the front of the image is Kester Eddy, a veteran now freelance reporter for the Economist and The Guardian. There was a lot of talking about “terrorists” in those days of confusion and Kalashnikov bursts… Nobody could tell us, afterwards if those arrested or killed as “terrorists” really were that…The only one charged and condamned as a “terrorist” was a Securitate major, later proved to have shot a preventin shot in the air, to prevent furious people to kill him…There were interesting, confusing, exciting and very ambiguous times, those days… One could have done practically anything, no police force or any authority except the Army (and they had other things on their mind, like helping the right people to take the power…)
