Broken Promises

If I take my eyes off my ship will sink
I blink
My life takes an awkward hold on me
Another direction…no one knows what times I seek
To find my self tumble
Don’t forget I was under-
neath it all
You watched me fall

Said, “I’ll meet you at the bottom”
“Yes, there I’ll be,” She promised me
Don’t know what on earth could possess me
I licked my lips, dove in a bit, and tasted it
After the morning broke I was bitter and all alone

Don’t make empty promises you can’t keep
I seek
To know you a little more, but now
You’ve changed direction…God only knows what you’ve been through and how
You crawl under my skin
Don’t make me begin
To retaliate
You make me hate

You promised you’d meet me at the bottom
“Yes, there I’ll be,” you lied to me
Don’t know what on earth could possess me
I licked my lips, dove in a bit, and tasted it
After the morning broke I was bitter and alone

Artist's Description

We must always try to remain unbitter when a friendship spoils, for we do not want to inflict the pain on a new friend that a faux-friend caused.
