Artist's Description

Daddy House Finch is perched between his three fledglings who he still protects and feeds. I didn’t realize until watching in real life, that the male House Finch takes a large roll in raising his young. He is the primary feeder of his mate when she is on the nest, the young while in the nest and the fledglings!
A House Finch’s song is a cheery, musical warble lasting several seconds, often ending with a harsh, descending note. In the presence of a female, males may sing an excited, more continuous version. Females occasionally sing simplified songs.
Their common call is a nasal wheet or seet, sometimes given sharply, other times in a more drawn-out manner. Another distinctive call sounds like chi-chuwee
