Coyotes are opportunists, both as scavengers as well as hunters. They eat any small animal they can capture, including gophers, rats, mice, mountain beavers, rabbits, and squirrels, also snakes, lizards, frogs, fish, birds, and carrion (animal carcasses). During the summer and fall, fruits and grasses are eaten.
