I Lift My Eyes

I lift my eyes
Above these steel mechanics
To the floating shapes-
Away from the grasping,
Wanting to be, desolate branches
Yearning to be free
Bursting up to height
But strangled by the
Umbilical cord
That jerks it back to here
Grounded by uncertainty
And curriculum of
Things that are
And must be
But still I watch
And dream of the
Ecstatic formations
That build and swell
And bear more uncertainty
-With crashings and
Boiling thunder.
And then,
I am glad for my roots
