Artist's Description

This plant grows in great profusion at Glen Maye, but can also be found at Niarbyl. It attracts butterflies and other insects, particularly soldier beetles (Cantharidae).

While this plant was used in herbal medicine in the past, it has since been proven to be toxic. It was once believed that the leaves of Hemp Agrimony would stop bread from going mouldy.

This plant is also known as “holy rope”, referencing the rope that was used to bind Jesus before he was crucified. Its Manx name is “jeshal”.
