Artist's Description

This plant can be found in damp areas and woodlands. Its flowers are not particularly prominent so it can be easily overlooked despite its height.

The Latin name “Scrophularia” comes from its use in herbal medicine to treat a form of tuberculosis called Scrofula.

The Manx name for this plant is “Lus-ghone”, which means “Brown-wort”.
