Artist's Description

This plant is native to eastern Europe but was introduced to the British Isles centuries ago, where it has become naturalized.

Shepherd’s Purse is so named because its heart-shaped fruits are said to resemble leather bags that were once used by shepherds.

This plant is edible and is cultivated for food in Asia. On the island it is often found in fields and meadows.
