Artist's Description

The Manx name for this flower is “lus skeaylley”, which means “plant of scattering” – probably a reference to its ability to produce many seeds – a single plant can produce over 2.7 million seeds in a year!

Despite this, it is only found in a few locations on the island, perhaps due to insects or other established plants. It is considered invasive in many other parts of the world.

The Manx name for this flower is “Shellaghan gorrym-jiarg”, which means “purple willowherb”.
