Artist's Description

A very common plant of grassy places, it can be found all over the island. Its root has a wide range of medical uses, and has also been used to make a red dye for leather.

The Manx name for this flower is “crammelt beg”, which means “little bitter” – most likely a reference to its bitter taste.
