Artist's Description

Found in grassy places everywhere, different varieties of violet can be very difficult to distinguish. Common Dog-violet can be distinguished from other types by the white “spur” protruding behind the flower.

The Manx name for this flower is “bossan feeackle”, which means “toothwort”.
