Artist's Description

One of the first flowers of the year, Winter Heliotrope flowers as early as January. A few were already appearing in late December this year.

Winter Heliotrope has male and female varieties, but only male plants can be found on the island. This means that they cannot spread by seed. Despite this, Winter Heliotrope is very common on the island.

The Manx name for this flower is “clagh folley”, which means “stone of blood”.
