Artist's Description

This flower grows along the banks of the Silverburn river. Unusually, this plant flowers before developing leaves, a trait referenced by one of its older names: “Lagwort”.

The large, broad leaves of this plant were once used to wrap butter.

Its Manx name is “gallan mooar”.
