This plant grows in wet places and is often found on riverbanks around the island. It is not very noticeable most of the time, but at this time of year it produces these “sporophytes”, which spread the plant’s spores.
In ancient times, this plant was believed to cure diseases of the liver. Its Manx name is “lus ny haane”, which means “Plant of liver”.
