Artist's Description

This flower is often seen in gardens, but has escaped into the wild in some places, including Colby.
Bees sometimes bite through the narrow base of these flowers to extract their nectar more easily.
The name “columbine” comes from the Latin word for “dove”. If you look carefully, you might notice that the flower resembles five doves facing one another.
The Manx name for this flower is “Lus y chalmane”, which means “plant of doves”.
