String of Pearls

Like the rising sun of morning
Breaking through the dark of night,
You’re there on each occasion, or are my eyes shut tight?
No, I’m sure that it was you,
Whispering words a breath away;
Your hand outstretched, touching mine,
“I’m here for you today.”

A kiss upon my forehead,
A caring smile to light the way,
I’m so proud, I cannot tell you, to see such love displayed.
There are riches one could wish for,
Yet in my wildest, wanting whirls,
There is nothing…, nothing, richer,
Than my family string of pearls.

Artist's Description

A String Of Pearls"

Moments filled with deep feelings often are the motivation for my poetry. It was a hospital stay and a difficult recovery period during the following months that motivated this poem. It was a time filled with constant care, concern and real time sacrifices made by my wife, our seven children and their spouses and was a gift so great and so appreciated that I knew I would be unable to verbalize it. It was shortly afterwards when the poem, “A String Of Pearls,” literally wrote itself.
