Artist's Description

I was out in the forest photographing “nature”, when I saw an insect fly into a web behind the spider orchid I was viewing. The spider began rolling this poor insect (which I realized later was a bee) in web. Through the macro lens, the details were fascinating…..the spider moved with such grace and precision and was almost beautiful…… the four streams of web streaming from its abdomen were really amazing to see……
However, if you are like me, spiders give me the cold shivers, so it was a very wierd feeling to witness and photograph these.
After it had finished and moved back to the top of its web, I realized with horror that the bee was still alive and moving inside the cocoon.
I wanted to rescue it, and get it free, but my Mother who was with me said she had tried in the past to release bees from such situations, and the cobweb was like glue, which meant it was near impossible to get it off the bee without killing it.
So I felt really sick leaving it there, but had to realize that this is indeed Nature at work and the “law of the jungle”…..
