Artist's Description

Pencil and watercolour on paper, 12″×18″ (30,5×45,5cm)
Inspired by a XIV-XVth century crucifixion that I had the chance to discover in the crypt of the church “Collégiale de St-Aignan”, France. I am still trying to figure out the meaning of some details of this original wall painting…
My version is referring to the parallels between Dionysus and Jesus in some comparative religion studies.
Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene and the other two saints that are present in the scene seem more “dead” than Jesus – symbolizing that struggling for your beliefs makes you more alive.
