And I don’t know how to squawk

We are birds.
Me a sparrow
lowly. lonely.
Yet lofty in dreams
of you
some parrot
of smooth
yet flashy flight.
What are we
with no words
our only speech
is ruffled feathers
and just unmet
bird eyes.
You never learned to chirp.

And I don’t know how to squawk
