A Natural Paradox, She Was

At the top of a hill
they stood alone
together
watching a sunny day
when in a flash
it was gone

Something rumbled
she spun
“What was that?”

He said

Wait.
And looking into the cloud.
He said

Ahh.
“What
WAS
that?”

Close your eyes
You’ll see.

“WHA-“
Shh.

She did.
It was dark
It was silence
It was nothing

And in a flash it was gone.

Suddenly
Swept up in a gust,
She was
(tumbling through senses
Lacking direction
She was everywhere and nowhere
She was everything and nothing)

She was
(a lightning tongue
Entering through
her open mouth
settling into her body
and elec
tro
cute
ing
her toes
shocking everything she touched)

She was
(the sun’s still scream
behind the clouds
burning despite blindness
and itching to be felt
by skin
to be soaked into someone
passionate and calm all at once)

She was
(a blade of grass
at a loss to all senses
but touch.
Her legs, her feet
In dirt in air in nothing?
reaching one way
her head the other.
and yearning to grow
in any unsure direction
to feel more of everything
for in the moment
that’s all she had

She couldn’t move slow enough
She couldn’t move fast enough)

She was
She was
She was
She opened her eyes
And closer that ever before to
herface was hisface

Dazed she breathed
“what
wasthat"
on his cheek.
“Nature’s Catharsis”
He whispered
and kissed her.

Again.

Artist's Description

I’ve been thinking on the idea of catharsis lately. This is one of the ways I’ve come up with to write it.

More attempts to come, I’m sure.
