No Longer Her Own

Sometimes,
in the midst
of the schedules, due dates, and appointments
she closes her eys
takes a deep breath
and defiantly thinks
of what she wants
what she needs,
and the last time
she had time
to feed her soul.
Her eyes were brown
deep chestnut,
embossed with strength
the same beautiful fearlessness
of a viscous lioness
protecting her dominion.
But,
look closely
and you can see
her lonely heart
for, her mate
is simply a paternal being
who physically resides
in the same vicinity
but is emotionally occupied.
He doesnt do much
to ease the list
of things “to do”
But,
when he holds their
9 month old infant
who he calls, Princess,
The everyday duties
don’t look so important anymore
And the baby’s innocent smile
warms the cold house
and chases the disagreements
out the door.
So she returns
to what needs
to be done
because, the battle is exhausting
but, strength allows
her to continue.
Her baby has a father
so the war is already won
Because her life is no longer her own.
