(Saguinus Oedipus)
Class: Mammal
Order: Primate
Status: Critically Endangered
Diet: Omnivorous
Weight: 400 – 500g

Cotton-Top Tamarins are among the smallest of the primates. They are found in the secondary forests of Costa Rica to north western Columbia.
They live off fruit, flowers, tree sap and insects.
The father assists at the birth by receiving the young and carrying the babies (usually twins) most of the time. The older siblings also help with rearing and carrying the babies.
Cotton-Top troops can vary between 2 to 13 individuals. They are led by the oldest female and the troop consists of mostly males.
The Cotton-Top’s natural enemies are wild cats, birds of prey and snakes.
Apart from the pet trade, bush clearance and human encroachment has caused them a 75% habitat loss.
