Nature’s Narcissist Nature

“Nature remains the most important concept of our reality. By its hands we receive all the plants and animals we will ever need. For some of us, we require more plants than animals. I speak of the civilized members of society. Who in their right mind would devour a living breathing creature? We are one in the same with these animals and nature itself. Therefore, harming nature represents the equivalent of harming ourselves.” Dilia constantly recorded her theories into the tape recorder her mother bought for her long before her unexpected death. Dilia was fifteen now and stood about a humble five foot two. Her mother was a world renowned geologist on the brink of what she believed the greatest discovery of all mankind. It all revolved around a theory she developed. Dilia was only five when her mother told it to her. They were taking their usual long walk in the woods of the Amazon forest. Dilia’s personality was very different back then. She didn’t care much about the environment or even considered it could have feelings of any kind.
“Do you hear that Dilia? If you listen closely you can hear the voice of nature speaking to us. We are the lucky one’s Dilia.” Dilia’s mother said giving her auburn hair a flip. Dilia possessed the same hair but she doubted she could ever get it to fall in such beautiful cascades resembling her mother. Her mother was a beautiful woman in Dilia’s eyes and to this day she believes that is why nature chose her.
“When we are so far away from that place we humans like to call ‘civilization’ we are able to hear that beautiful sound.” Dilia’s mother outstretched her hands in what Dilia believed resembled the disposition of an angel.
When They returned to their condo in New York Dilia noticed her mother was not herself. She was strangely exhausted and very soon she was admitted to the hospital. Apparently she contracted a strange disease from her adventure and wouldn’t have long to live. Dilia decided she hated nature but her mother’s words changed her mind.
“It is nature’s way to take humans away from the one’s they love. We come from the earth you see. Therefore we must return to the earth from whence we came. Do not blame nature, my dear. It only does what it has done since the beginning of time. Nature gives us many things and this is how we repay it.” Her mother had then told her.
“I still believe those words but I have to ask her why?” Dilia took her last trip into the rainforest today. She ventured to the middle of the forest and asked the forest why.
“I am living just as you are living. If humans can destroy me as well then what apology do you deserve for what is done. What have you done to prevent my demise? You at least owe me that much.” The forest answered.
