Artist's Description

From my latest exhibition , “French Letters” in Hobart, Tasmania.
The French have several symbols and “Marianne” is a young fictional woman, who stands for the Republic and all that it represents in French culture. She first appeared during the Revolution of 1789 and continues to this day, on French postage stamps and as a bust in many a foyer of French civic buildings. She is paid homage annually, on Bastille Day.

Mixed media collage on A4 envelope. Posted in France to Australia.
Part of “French Letters” art exhibition by Ian Hawkins.November 2012, Hobart.
