Have Faith In Wordless Knowledge

the words from your mouth stung even the air
it was like our table was on fire
I looked long and hard into the flames
creeping in and out of shapes
why should we ever dance?

in pre-school I drew the same picture, everyday:
my best friend and me playing football
the answers lie not in the content but the process
I realised then life relives itself
a mirror that we carry forever

you won’t finish your pizza and nor will I
there is a lack of responsible waiters at this restaurant
I enjoy the feel of left-over chlorine
in the corner of the room, a plastic sunflower wilts
can it be that is was designed that way?

your face looks like oblivion
I look to the Hindu Gods for mercy
the knife and fork on your plate are loosely connected
words stream toward me so horrid and exact
I unlearn their meanings

I hear a slow, harmonic bass line
a song appears: it’s about tragedy
the same thing happened to Elvis
If this is for the best then shouldn’t I know it
my chair silently carries me through vulnerable states
