Dear Acquaintance

Dear Acquaintance

Please don’t tell me you care
You try on everything that you choose to wear
You love only what you can readily bare
When you dare to come near, you fold your hands
Your burden more than jealousy can bear
I don’t understand but still have time not to be anywhere
Don’t let me down, you ain’t going nowhere

I lie upon my empty silver chair
I wear my dying crown of absent coloured hair
My name rearranged beneath you and you do not repair
I know which way you talk behind my back, and in it’s way it’s fair
In halfway houses we meet halfway up the stairs
I look into your eyes instinctively in conscience and good cheer
You pay me last respects from of a decent wage of fear
But I don’t see you anywhere
And I’m not holding flowers, nor the weeds of yesteryear

Simplicity doesn’t talk it swears
Reality who really cares
Thieves and clowns make their all night rounds
Separating poverty from stolen tears
But no face is forgotten faced with it’s broken mirror
Since innocence and wisdom sold out at Vanity fair
Visions of sin lie starving in the frozen air
Things ain’t gloomy yet but they’re getting there

You bring short change from manufactured tales of despair
I close my eyes, but are these dreams, Mr Jones
Or tell me, are they prayers?
Slow to anger as you see the sun
“I know the way out of here” the few words that you said
But no one will follow you no matter who you’ve led
How are we supposed to continue
When everything’s been said and done?

Go back home to your companion, no one is prepared
I know you’ll always be there, but I’m not there, I’m gone
You listen well but tell me plainly everything you hear
Even if you comprehend, please don’t tell me that you care
Cause I will not remember, when you finally disappear
Could you possibly forgive me
If I told you why it is that I am here?

Sincerely, the keeper of your family tree with two hands full of fear
