Widow's Web

Trick or treaty, New Year’s evenin’ has fallen from grace
Cinderella’s bill of rights just won’t fit
Facing the music, Nero is a liar, falling short
Hear say has the nice guy deaf on the ground
Drawing up notice, revolving round the Son
Honouring gold diggers’ gravest needs
The shallow undertaker stands down pushing weeds
Casting lots of bread into the stony nest
Wearing stocks hung out to dry purchasable seeds

To the close careless men come and go
Distracted by the road show

Piping tellers strike but can’t say why
Nostradamus still hasn’t got a clue
Market tables did return, a pair of ragged claws
Dead man walking climbs the runway, narrow-ly
Taking out the closet, pointing Pinot’s point of view
While janitors dust footprints from shoulders cold
Nurse Jekyll is in hiding, thrown security to think
Dr Death returns to fold corruptible seed
The flower ladies flatten me
The lady’s man rolls over, burning bags
His favourite word used to be

To the close careless men came and went
Straight from the accident

Pandora’s love is crumbling
Sent with boxed wishes, best
The fat lady wears out a feather in his cap
Tempting Flash to cut the rest
Uncovered guards hold the way
Traced with lead, the taken cup
Giving lip, David learns to live
By himself toasting tea, testing
Jars of Port ‘pared for Boxing day
While funny farmers off the shelf
Run down the river in pairs
The Siamese cat’s approaching
Rising tents on blood and tears, are built
Abram’s curse, must be very proud

To the close careless men come and go
Drinking rain as they grow

By the way, I saw Jacob’s ladder,
In the house where no-one lived
The kitchen sink stuck with barn yard hair
Delilah washing hands, secretly
Engrossed in her “Dynasty”
Han Skywalker has left holding
Bathwater out the window roof
While bent-tailed stutterers are laughing, wet
Soap served up in truth, Quasimodo’s dream
Snappy shorts eaten, up, good principals are held
Wooden caskets stained “Good health”
Family feuds with our father
Judas rounding out the table clean
While star treks still burn alittle
Those twin peaks looked bushed
Helen came in first, driven home all the way
Only to find Marie couldn’t cure a thing
Isis came round then passed on
She always had something new to say

While, to the close careless men came and went
Searching for the monument

Out the back the horsemen rear ugly heads
Fortune tellers bring up their parade
In black and white, the burial of the dead remains
As defenders of the wasteland
Work in a game of chess
Through the cruelest April rain
Darkness is withering across the lake
The moon is empty, begun to ache
Sea snakes lie backwards just to keep awake

While Romeo stands In the clearing
Holding down the mooning man
There’s nowhere he hasn’t been
The virgin mother capped with adidas
Relieves herself, Venus signs “Uranus, I have never seen”
When six white mares were gunned down
Ruth robbed, eyes wide shut by the king
Dressed down In rainbow weeds, tangled up in blue
Through the maize Charlotte still followed me, cultivating cobs
Bin Laden spoiled green through the mud
Is wheeled away mercifully, in red
The trampled dollar dropped

To thte close careless men came and went
Tripping on the air vent

Hangin’ gardens for Hitler
Holding flowers, back against the wall
The vanishing American has been found wanting
The apparition of Ezra’s final pound of flesh
Without measure of a doubt
He can’t help himself, Bathsheba bathing quietly
Shadow boxers buried by the queen of
Balanced news, in the hold
Fishermen strip merchant men of war
Goliath, cut down, has been set loose
And well fed by aids heavenly
While well swept young witches lay in waiting
Humpty Dumpty has been roped down from Hile

To the close careless men come and go
Crawling out, through the snow

When Cleopatra’s needles saw certain weeds, with a whimper
Maggie’s wit became iron willed
’Lizabeth’s common sense is sensitive, to the pressing cup
Two riders screams came tumbling down
Faced with the furnace, the Sirens filed away
Little Mary can’t hold her pride without prejudice
The rich man had four eyes
Refurnishing himself
Noah just, knew they’d be refilled

To the close careless men still come and go
Looking out for the nested crow

Floating the extra mile, Cleopatra’s mother in law is scheming
While businessmen are swarming, the early bird is working late
Hangin’ round, Christina is in a fix, Lazarus is a wake
At long last, Tifanny has taken supper, sucking up the bones
For inspection, Methuselah’s skeleton is open
While through the trees, ring leaders run the raven ragged
The river is still alive, but broken drones ring true

To the close careless men come and go
Sleep walking guide dogs
As if there is no where else to go

In fall, Berlin scattered cold women leaving
Pan’s labyrinth petered out
Dignatries protesting paste the document
Hadrian’s Great wall cannot be seen, peacefully
Lions and Christians stand together short
Willed by gates confused, holding up two towers
Babbling bout the price of bread and fish
Coincidence constructed, while
The friendly fiddler has put his foot in it
And now the clay is on fire
Peeking out of winter’s decadence
Versailles has no sense, to deny deliverance
Hallowed Peter, the Owl still oversees

To the close careless men come and go
To the close careless men came and went

Upon the mercy seat the sword swallower’s fast asleep
While birds of prey soar too high on the wings of the breeze
Mansions on the hill, fill with regret into eternity
Screen writers contracted to repair
Time to turn back but do I dare?
Either way, I come and go
Never certain ‘bout whom I know
With Achille’s heel and tendon
Intending, how should I begin?

Artist's Description

The main scene takes place at the dead end of a maze.
There are two towers and a gate at the dead end. But the gate is not readily open.
A river also runs through the dead end (i.e. is on either side)
