Artist's Description

The Fishing Trawler Jacinta in my home town port.Below a brief description of her.
JACINTA (FD159) came to Fleetwood as a newly built vessel for J Marr & Son Ltd.
She took her maiden voyage on 17th July 1972 and became Fleetwood’s top wet fish trawler. Jacinta fished out of Fleetwood for the first ten years of her life before being transferred to Hull in 1982.
In February 1990, the Jacinta, with Skipper Dennis Beaumont set a British record catch of 270,516 pounds. Jacinta was a top earner in her time, making 17.3 million pounds in her 23 years at sea. She was also the top earning trawler in 1986 and 1994. Jacinta was the last big trawler to land a catch at Fleetwood before the collapse of the trade.
In 1995, the managing director of the Marr group decided to hand over the ship to Fleetwood when she was struck down by serious engine troubles and expensive repairs made her an unviable business proposition. The Jacinta Trust paid 1 pounds for the vessel and the trawler left Hull on 09/02/1995 under tow for Fleetwood to become the focal point of the Jacinta Heritage Trust in the docks. Jacinta was fitted with a new engine to enable her to go to sea and attend heritage festivals.
