Artist's Description

The crew were at sea for three weeks and only at home for two or three days, so there wasn’t a lot of time to see their family. Some people didn’t like waving goodbye as they thought it was a bit unlucky.

A lot more people came to wave them back in when the ships came home. The Lofthouse family, who own the company that make Fishermen’s Friends lozenges, wanted to create a piece of sculpture that recalled the happy side of those days. This bronze sculpture by Anita Lafford was the result.

This is a view from the town were i live which was a big fishing port, this view shows the Irish Sea running into the River Wyre were ships used to go in and out of Fleetwood.
