Found today on an old stump…Esopus Meadows trail, Ulster county, NY USA. A poisonous mushroom easily confused with the edible Chanterelle for the uninformed mushroom collector. Slight differences make all the difference. These always grow in clusters on old wood, whereas the chanterelles grow on the ground scattered about. These have sharp gills whereas the chanterelles have ridges beneath the cap. These also are a deep orange color, whereas the chanterelles are usually a lighter color.
