Artist's Description

Caerlaverock Castle, on the shore of the Solway Firth in Dumfries and Galloway, was built by the Maxwell family in the 1270s. This is the “new” castle as there are the remains of an even older one behind it!

It is built of red sandstone and has a moat, and is unique in being triangular in shape. It is now preserved by Historic Scotland and open to the public and popular as a background to wedding photographs.

The last time I was here it really WAS a beautiful summer’s day.
